Percents are a way to express a number as a part of 100. When you see a percent sign (%), it means 'out of 100.' For example, if you score 45 out of 100 on a test, your score can also be expressed as 45%. This tells you that you answered 45 questions correctly out of a total of 100. To find a percentage of a number, you can use the formula: (part/whole) ร— 100. If you want to find out what 20% of 50 is, you first divide 20 by 100 to get 0.2, then multiply that by 50, which equals 10. Therefore, 20% of 50 is 10. Understanding percents helps in real-life situations, like calculating discounts while shopping or understanding statistics.
