Unit rates help us compare different quantities and understand how much of one thing corresponds to one unit of another. A unit rate is a ratio that compares a quantity to one unit of another quantity. For example, if a car travels 300 miles using 10 gallons of gas, we can find the unit rate of miles per gallon. To do this, divide the total miles by the total gallons: 300 miles รท 10 gallons = 30 miles per gallon. This means the car travels 30 miles for every gallon of gas it uses. Unit rates are useful in real life, like when shopping for the best price or figuring out speed. Understanding unit rates can help you make better choices and solve problems more easily.
