Ancient Rome was a powerful civilization that existed from 753 BC to 476 AD. It began as a small city and grew into a vast empire that controlled much of Europe, North Africa, and parts of Asia. The government of Ancient Rome was a republic, meaning that citizens could vote for their leaders. One famous example of Roman architecture is the Colosseum, a large arena where gladiators fought and events were held. The Romans also developed an extensive road system, making travel and trade easier across their empire. They were known for their engineering skills, creating aqueducts to bring water into cities. Roman culture, including language, art, and laws, has influenced many aspects of modern society. For instance, many English words come from Latin, the language spoken by the Romans.
