Earth's atmosphere is a layer of gases that surrounds our planet and is essential for life. It is made up of 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, and small amounts of other gases like carbon dioxide and argon. The atmosphere protects us from the sun's harmful radiation and helps regulate temperature, making Earth a comfortable place to live. For example, when the sun heats the ground, the air above it warms up too, creating wind. This moving air helps distribute heat around the planet. Additionally, the atmosphere allows us to breathe by providing the oxygen we need. Weather, including rain and snow, also occurs in the atmosphere, as clouds form and precipitation falls to the ground. Without the atmosphere, Earth would be a cold and lifeless place, making it crucial for our survival.
