Mesoamerican civilizations refer to the advanced cultures that developed in the region stretching from central Mexico to northern Central America, beginning around 2000 BCE. These societies, such as the Maya and Aztecs, were known for their impressive achievements in areas like agriculture, architecture, and astronomy. For example, the Maya created a complex calendar system based on their observations of the stars and planets. They built magnificent pyramids and temples, some of which still stand today. The Aztecs, on the other hand, established a vast empire with a capital city called Tenochtitlán, located on an island in Lake Texcoco. They were skilled in farming, using a method called chinampas, which involved creating floating gardens. Mesoamerican civilizations had rich traditions in art, religion, and trade, influencing cultures throughout the Americas.
