Climate change refers to significant changes in global temperatures and weather patterns over time. While these changes can occur naturally, recent climate change is largely caused by human activities, especially the burning of fossil fuels like coal, oil, and gas. When these fuels are burned, they release greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide, into the atmosphere. These gases trap heat from the sun, creating a 'greenhouse effect.' A concrete example of climate change is the melting of polar ice caps, which leads to rising sea levels. As temperatures rise, many species struggle to survive in their habitats, and extreme weather events, like hurricanes and droughts, become more common. Understanding climate change helps us take action to protect our planet for future generations.
