We learned to appreciate how much waste people leave behind. We had a responsibility to our environment. The cleanup had a positive influence on the river. It looked better when we were done. We had started a tradition. We would do it every year. Our community had come together. We had achieved something good. We had discovered that small actions add up. We had made the river cleaner. We were proud. The river cleanup had taught us about citizenship. We would never forget that day. We had built a habit of care.
