The Cold War also led to the creation of NATO, a military alliance formed by Western countries, and the Warsaw Pact, which united Soviet-aligned nations. Ultimately, the Cold War ended with the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, leading to a shift in global politics and the end of decades of suspicion and rivalry.
