Stop at the Dot

At the end of many sentences there is a tiny dot called a period. It is like a stop sign for your voice.

When a grown-up reads, 'The dog ran. The dog sat. ' they stop for a moment after ran.

That little pause helps listeners know one idea is done and a new idea is starting.

Without stops, all the words would bump together.

• 1A period is a little dot
• 2It means stop and rest
• 3Pauses keep ideas apart
