Short E Says /e/

E is a vowel. It often makes the short sound /e/, as in egg and elbow.

Your mouth opens a little, and the sound is short: eh. Listen to the middle of bed: b-eee-d.

Hen, pet, and ten all have short e in the middle. Short e and short i can sound alike, so listen carefully: pen, pin.
