Trees Are Homes

Lab Brief #3

🎯 Your mission

Learn the rule. Then catch nature using it.

⚡ The twist

What the body does in one minute is wilder than any cartoon.

What you'll learn

Trees provide homes for many animals: birds nest in branches, squirrels live in trunks, and insects live under bark.

Key words

insect
A small animal with six legs and a body in three parts.
bird
A warm-blooded animal with feathers, wings, and a beak that lays eggs.

Make a hypothesis first

Guess: how does the body solve this problem?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the new words. Can you say each one?

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Draw a food chain: start with the sun, then a plant, then an animal that eats it, then a predator.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Draw a picture of what you observe.

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Share your results with a partner.

🌍 Where you see this in real life: This is why plants grow toward windows and why scabs form.

🏆 Stretch challenge (try it this week): Watch a plant or pet for 5 minutes today and write down what you noticed.

👨‍👩‍👧 For the dinner table: “Tell me something you noticed about your own body today.”
