Gravity Pulls You Down

Lab Brief #5

🎯 Your mission

Learn the rule. Then catch nature using it.

⚡ The twist

Speed isn't the same as force. Don't mix them up.

What you'll learn

Gravity is a force that pulls everything toward the ground. It is why you come back down when you jump!

Key words

force
A push or pull that can make an object move or stop.
gravity
A force that pulls things down toward the Earth.
pull
To move something closer by tugging on it.

Make a hypothesis first

Guess: where does the energy go?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the new words. Can you say each one?

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Drop a feather and a coin at the same time from the same height. Which hits the ground first?

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Watch carefully. What happens?

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Draw and write about what you learned.

Question 1 of 3

What is gravity?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 2 of 3

What force keeps you on the ground?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 3 of 3

What is a force?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Mind = blown

⚡ Static electricity is the same physics as lightning, just smaller.

Nice work!

You got 0 of 3 right.

✨ More to explore

🌍 Where you see this in real life: You use this every time you flip a light switch, ride a bike, or kick a ball.

🏆 Stretch challenge (try it this week): Time how long a small ball rolls down something, then change the slope and try again.

👨‍👩‍👧 For the dinner table: “Show me something at home that uses this kind of energy.”
