Parts of a Plant

Lab Brief #4

🎯 Your mission

Run the experiment. Find out what really happens.

⚡ The twist

What the body does in one minute is wilder than any cartoon.

What you'll learn

Plants need sunlight, water, air, and soil to grow. Each part of the plant has a job: roots drink water, stems hold the plant up, and leaves catch sunlight.

Key words

roots
The plant parts that hold it down and soak up water.
stem
The part of a plant that holds it up and carries water.

Make a hypothesis first

Guess: how does the body solve this problem?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Get ready

🧰 What you need

seeds
water

⚠️ Safety first

Never look directly at the Sun or into a laser, even briefly.
Mop up spills straight away so nobody slips, and keep liquids away from sockets.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the new words. Can you say each one?

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Plant two seeds: put one in sunlight and one in a dark closet. Water both the same amount each day.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Compare what happened to what you predicted.

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Tell the class one thing you learned today.

Question 1 of 3

What do plants make from sunlight?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 2 of 3

What do worms do for the soil?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 3 of 3

Which part of a plant takes in water?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Mind = blown

🦠 You have more bacterial cells in your body than human cells.
