North and South Poles

Lab Brief #3

🎯 Your mission

Learn the rule. Then catch nature using it.

⚡ The twist

The opposite of what you expect is often what happens.

What you'll learn

Magnets have a north pole and a south pole. Opposite poles attract, same poles push apart.

Key words

magnet
An object that pulls iron and other metals toward it.
attract
To pull something closer, like a magnet pulls metal.
push
To press against something to move it away from you.

Make a hypothesis first

Predict: what happens if you double the force?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the new words. Can you say each one?

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Push a toy car across the carpet, then across a smooth floor. Measure how far it goes each time.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Look for something that changed. What is it?

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Circle the correct answer on your worksheet.

Question 1 of 3

What are the two poles of a magnet?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 2 of 3

What happens when opposite poles of magnets meet?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 3 of 3

What does a magnet attract?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Mind = blown
