Describing Properties

Lab Brief #9

🎯 Your mission

Learn the rule. Then catch nature using it.

⚡ The twist

Color changes mean atoms are rearranging — even if you can't see them.

What you'll learn

Objects can be described by their properties: color, size, shape, texture, weight, and flexibility.

Key words

texture
The way something feels when you touch it, rough or soft.
weight
How heavy something is because of gravity pulling on it.
property
A trait that describes something, like color or size.

Make a hypothesis first

Before you mix: what color do you think it'll turn?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the new words. Can you say each one?

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Test 5 objects from your house: put each one in water. Make a chart of which sink and which float.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Look for something that changed. What is it?

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Circle the correct answer on your worksheet.

Question 1 of 3

Which word describes an object's texture?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 2 of 3

Which of these is a property you can see?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 3 of 3

A property that tells if something bends easily is called:

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Mind = blown

🌈 Every color you see is your brain inventing a translation of light frequencies.

Nice work!

You got 0 of 3 right.
