Metamorphosis Explained

Lab Brief #3

🎯 Your mission

Master the concept. Use it tomorrow.

⚡ The twist

Living things break the rules of non-living things — find the rule they break.

What you'll learn

During metamorphosis, an organism changes its body form completely. A butterfly begins as an egg, becomes a caterpillar, forms a chrysalis, and finally emerges with wings.

Key words

metamorphosis
A big body change, like a caterpillar becoming a butterfly.
organism
Any living thing, such as a plant, animal, or tiny microbe.

Make a hypothesis first

Predict: what will happen to the plant if you change the water?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the vocabulary words and write a definition for each in your own words.

Create a detailed food web for a local ecosystem. Include at least 8 organisms and use arrows to show energy flow from producers to top predators.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Use your senses (except taste) to describe what you notice.

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Write a summary of your findings in 3-5 sentences.
