Lesson30 XP

Evidence Versus Opinion

🧪Lab Brief #7

Data and Evidence.

🎯 Your mission

Understand the idea. Then look for it everywhere.

⚡ The twist

Nature loves to surprise the careful watcher.

🤯

Mind = Blown

🔬 The more you look, the more nature shows you.

🔮

Make a hypothesis first

Before you start: write down what you think will happen, and why.

What You'll Learn

Evidence is a measurement or observation anyone could repeat. An opinion is a preference. Both are legitimate, but only evidence settles a scientific question, and mixing the two is the commonest fault in a written conclusion.

Steps

Step 1Read

Read the explanation above and note the two key terms before you start.

Step 2Do

Take six statements about a local pond and sort them into evidence and opinion. For each opinion, write the measurement that would turn it into evidence.

Step 3Observe

Record what actually happened, including anything that did not match what you expected.

Step 4Record

Write a conclusion that answers the question this lesson opened with, and state your uncertainty.
