The Brain: Control Center

Lab Brief #2

🎯 Your mission

Understand the idea. Then look for it everywhere.

⚡ The twist

Living things break the rules of non-living things — find the rule they break.

What you'll learn

The brain is the control center of the nervous system. It processes information from the senses, controls movement, stores memories, and manages body functions like breathing.

Key words

organ system
A group of organs that work together to do a job.
immune system
The body's defense team that fights off germs and sickness.
skeletal system
All the bones that support and protect your body.

Make a hypothesis first

Predict: what will happen to the plant if you change the water?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the vocabulary words and write a definition for each in your own words.

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Build a model of the respiratory system using a plastic bottle, balloons, and a straw. Show how the diaphragm helps you breathe.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Compare the before and after states.

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Write your conclusion: did the results match your hypothesis? What would you change next time?

Question 1 of 3

What does the brain do?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 2 of 3

What is the largest organ of the human body?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 3 of 3

What system defends the body against germs?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Mind = blown

🦠 You have more bacterial cells in your body than human cells.

Nice work!

You got 0 of 3 right.
