How the Immune System Works

Lab Brief #9

🎯 Your mission

Understand the idea. Then look for it everywhere.

⚡ The twist

Every species solves the same problem differently.

What you'll learn

The immune system defends the body by finding and destroying harmful invaders such as bacteria and viruses. White blood cells hunt down germs, and after fighting an illness the body can remember it and respond faster the next time.

Key words

cell
The tiny building block that makes up all living things.

Make a hypothesis first

Before you watch: what do you think it'll do?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 3 · Read

Look at the vocabulary words and write a definition for each in your own words.

Step 2 of 3 · Observe

Observe what happens and describe it in detail.

Step 3 of 3 · Record

Record your observations in your science journal with measurements and descriptions.

Question 1 of 2

What is an adaptation?

How sure are you?😐 maybe

Question 2 of 2

What is the function of chloroplasts in plant cells?

How sure are you?😐 maybe
