What You'll Learn
The cornea does most of the focusing and the lens fine-tunes it, projecting a real inverted image onto the retina. Short sight focuses in front of the retina and is corrected with a concave lens; long sight focuses behind it and needs a convex lens.

Safety First
- Use an electric lamp, not a candle, near water and glass.
- A water-filled flask focuses light and can start a fire — keep it out of sunlight.
Steps

Model the eye with a water-filled round flask as the lens and a curved card as the retina. Move a candle or lamp closer and further and find where a sharp image forms, then place a concave lens in front to simulate correcting short sight.
