What You'll Learn
When a wave reflects and interferes with itself, fixed nodes and antinodes appear — a standing wave. Every object has natural frequencies at which this happens easily; drive it at one and the amplitude grows dramatically. That is resonance.

Materials Needed

Safety First
- Use a low-voltage supply and keep hands clear of the vibrating string.
Steps

Fix one end of a string to a vibration generator and vary the frequency until clear loops appear. Record the frequencies that give one, two and three loops and look for the whole-number pattern.
