The Confederate States of America (CSA) was formed in 1861 by a group of Southern states that seceded from the Union. These states created their own government and constitution, which supported the institution of slavery and aimed to protect their rights. Jefferson Davis was elected as the President of the Confederacy. The CSA fought against the Union during the Civil War, believing they were defending their way of life. However, the Confederacy struggled with resources and unity throughout the war, ultimately leading to its defeat in 1865.
