Chinese Railroad Workers

Chinese railroad workers played a pivotal role in the construction of the Transcontinental Railroad during the 19th century. After the Gold Rush, many Chinese immigrants sought work opportunities in America, leading to their hiring for the challenging task of building the railroad across the Sierra Nevada mountains.

Despite facing discrimination and harsh working conditions, these laborers demonstrated remarkable resilience and skill, contributing significantly to the completion of the railroad in 1869, which connected the eastern and western parts of the United States.
