Why We Needed a Constitution

The need for a Constitution arose from the inadequacies of the Articles of Confederation, which created a weak central government that struggled to address economic turmoil and internal conflicts among the states. The lack of a unified currency and the inability to levy taxes left the federal government without the means to function effectively. This disarray culminated in events such as Shays' Rebellion, which highlighted the urgent need for a stronger national framework.
