The First Continental Congress convened in September 1774 as a response to growing tensions with Britain. Delegates from twelve of the thirteen colonies gathered in Philadelphia to discuss their grievances and plan a unified response to British policies, particularly in light of the Intolerable Acts. This congress marked a significant step towards unity among the colonies, as they agreed to boycott British goods and to meet again if their rights were not addressed.
