Half of 7
Half of 7 is 3½
7 ÷ 2 = 3½
7 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 3½ means 3 and a half.
How to find half of 7
- 1Half means splitting 7 into 2 equal groups, so work out 7 ÷ 2.
- 27 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 3 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 7 is 3½ — 3 and a half. The even numbers either side, 6 and 8, halve to 3 and 4.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 3½ + 3½ = 7.
