How to find half of 39
- 1Half means splitting 39 into 2 equal groups, so work out 39 ÷ 2.
- 239 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 19 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 39 is 19½ — 19 and a half. The even numbers either side, 38 and 40, halve to 19 and 20.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 19½ + 19½ = 39.
