Half of 61

61 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 30½ means 30 and a half.
How to find half of 61
- 1Half means splitting 61 into 2 equal groups, so work out 61 ÷ 2.
- 261 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 30 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 61 is 30½ — 30 and a half. The even numbers either side, 60 and 62, halve to 30 and 31.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 30½ + 30½ = 61.
