Sight Word Phrases

Read groups of sight words together as one chunk.

Sight words often travel in groups. Phrases like 'in the', 'on the', 'I can', 'look at', 'go to the', and 'one of the' show up again and again. Good readers see the whole chunk at once instead of reading word by word. Compare: 'I. can. go. to. the.

park. ' with 'I can go / to the park. ' The second way sounds like talking. Practice by reading phrase cards until each one is quick. Then, when you see 'at the end of the day', your eyes grab it in one or two jumps.
