Water on Earth moves in a cycle. It never stops. The sun heats water in oceans and lakes. Some of the water turns into vapor. It goes up into the sky. That is called evaporation. The vapor gets cold in the sky. It forms tiny drops. The drops make clouds. When the clouds get heavy with water, rain falls. That is called precipitation. Sometimes it snows instead of rains. The water runs into streams and rivers. It runs back into the oceans. Then the cycle starts again. We need water to live. The water cycle gives us rain and snow. It fills our lakes and rivers. It is important to keep our water clean.
