Long ago people could not talk to someone far away. They had to send letters. Letters took a long time. A man named Alexander Graham Bell had an idea. He wanted to send voices through wires. He worked for many years. He tried again and again. In 1876 he made the first telephone. When you spoke into it, your voice traveled through a wire. The other person could hear you. It was amazing. Soon many people had telephones. Today we have phones with no wires at all. We can talk to people anywhere. We can even see them on a screen. It all started with one idea.
