Mom had made a plate of cookies. She left them on the counter to cool. When she came back half were gone. She asked who had taken them. Nobody said anything. I had not taken them. My brother said he had not. We had a mystery. I decided to find out. I looked for clues. I found crumbs on the floor. They led to the back door. I looked outside. Our dog was lying in the sun. Next to him was an empty plate. The mystery was solved. The dog had taken the cookies. We all laughed. Mom said we had to keep food where the dog could not reach it. Perhaps the dog had never had a chance like that before. I had discovered that even mysteries have an answer. You just have to look. We gave the dog a dog treat instead. He seemed happy. The adventure of the missing cookies was over.
