The Long Hike

Our class went on a hike in the mountains. The trail was five miles long. I had never hiked that far. We started in the morning. The path went up and up. My legs got tired. But I kept going. My friend walked with me. We talked and looked at the trees. Suddenly we saw a waterfall. The water was enormous. It crashed into a pool below. We stopped to look. The teacher said we were halfway. We ate our lunch by the water. Then we kept going. The way back was downhill. It was easier. When we reached the bus we were exhausted. But we had done it. I had discovered that I could do hard things. Perhaps I would hike again. The journey had been worth every step. I could not wait to tell my family. The adventure was one I would never forget.
