An ecosystem is a community of living things, like plants and animals, interacting with each other and their environment. In an ecosystem, every part plays a role. For example, in a forest ecosystem, trees provide shelter for birds, while insects help break down dead leaves, returning nutrients to the soil. This helps new plants grow. Water, sunlight, and soil are also important parts of the ecosystem because they support all living things. If one part of the ecosystem is harmed, like cutting down too many trees, it can affect the entire system.
