Adaptations for Survival

Lab Brief #1

🎯 Your mission

Learn the rule. Then catch nature using it.

⚡ The twist

Nature loves to surprise the careful watcher.

What you'll learn

Animals have different adaptations that help them survive. Camouflage helps animals blend in, sharp claws help predators catch prey, and thick fur keeps animals warm.

Key words

adaptation
A body part or behavior that helps a living thing survive where it lives.
prey
An animal that is hunted and eaten by another animal.

Make a hypothesis first

Before you start: write down what you think will happen, and why.

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Look at the vocabulary words and write a definition for each in your own words.

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Create a detailed food web for a local ecosystem. Include at least 8 organisms and use arrows to show energy flow from producers to top predators.

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Use your senses (except taste) to describe what you notice.

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Write a summary of your findings in 3-5 sentences.
