Down the Slide!

Lab Brief #10

🎯 Your mission

Learn the rule. Then catch nature using it.

⚡ The twist

The first design always fails. That's the point.

What you'll learn

A slide is a ramp. You slide down because gravity pulls you!

Key words · 1 of 2

pull
To move something closer by tugging on it.
slide
To move smoothly across a surface without lifting.

Key words · 2 of 2

ramp
A flat surface that slants to help move things up or down.

Make a hypothesis first

Guess: what's the weakest part of this build?

Say your guess out loud — then find out if you were right.

Step 1 of 4 · Read

Say the vocabulary words out loud. Can you repeat them?

Step 2 of 4 · Do

Try pulling a wagon with one hand, then two hands. Which is easier?

Step 3 of 4 · Observe

Use your eyes, ears, and hands to explore. What do you notice?

Step 4 of 4 · Record

Color a picture to show what happened.

Question 1 of 3

What happens if you make a ramp steeper?

Question 2 of 3

If you pull a wagon, does it come toward you?

Question 3 of 3

Does a ramp help move things?

Mind = blown

🚀 The Saturn V rocket burned 20 tons of fuel per second at liftoff.

Nice work!

You got 0 of 3 right.

✨ More to explore

🌍 Where you see this in real life: Every bridge, building, and gadget you've ever used started with this.

🏆 Stretch challenge (try it this week): Find something that's broken at home and try to figure out *why* it broke.

👨‍👩‍👧 For the dinner table: “What's something around the house you'd redesign — and how?”
