Factoring, still sharp

๐Ÿ”ข Math๐Ÿ” Practiseโฑ๏ธ about 45 minutes

Ten factoring problems from last year, timed, with an error log entry for each miss.

Reps on something already met. Short, and worth doing even on a bad evening.

Today is rung 2 of 17 on this topic

Keeping Algebra I sharp

Can do: Retains fluency in equations, factoring, quadratics and functions while doing a year of geometry.

Why it matters

A geometry year with no algebra practice means arriving at Algebra II rusty. Ten minutes a week prevents it entirely.

What it looks like when it's wobbly

Algebra skills fade over the geometry year and the drop only becomes visible next September.

โฑ๏ธ Two-minute check

Set five Algebra I problems cold, with no warning or revision.

Solid looks like: Four of five, at speed, without needing to look anything up.

Weekly Algebra Ten

Old Algebra I problemsA timer
  1. 1Ten mixed problems from last year, once a week, timed.
  2. 2Rotate the topics: equations, factoring, quadratics, functions, exponents.
  3. 3Keep an error log and rework anything missed twice.
  4. 4Track the time as well as the score โ€” speed is what fades first.
  5. 5Do a full Algebra I review two weeks before the year ends.

If it's too hard

Five problems, untimed.

If it's too easy

Mix in Algebra II preview topics โ€” rational expressions, systems of three equations.

Say this

"Ten minutes a week now, or three weeks of relearning it in September. Your choice."
