Half of 11
Half of 11 is 5½
11 ÷ 2 = 5½
11 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 5½ means 5 and a half.
How to find half of 11
- 1Half means splitting 11 into 2 equal groups, so work out 11 ÷ 2.
- 211 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 5 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 11 is 5½ — 5 and a half. The even numbers either side, 10 and 12, halve to 5 and 6.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 5½ + 5½ = 11.
