Half of 13
Half of 13 is 6½
13 ÷ 2 = 6½
13 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 6½ means 6 and a half.
How to find half of 13
- 1Half means splitting 13 into 2 equal groups, so work out 13 ÷ 2.
- 213 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 6 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 13 is 6½ — 6 and a half. The even numbers either side, 12 and 14, halve to 6 and 7.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 6½ + 6½ = 13.
