Half of 15
Half of 15 is 7½
15 ÷ 2 = 7½
15 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 7½ means 7 and a half.
How to find half of 15
- 1Half means splitting 15 into 2 equal groups, so work out 15 ÷ 2.
- 215 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 7 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 15 is 7½ — 7 and a half. The even numbers either side, 14 and 16, halve to 7 and 8.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 7½ + 7½ = 15.
