Half of 19 is 9½
19 ÷ 2 = 9½
19 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 9½ means 9 and a half.
How to find half of 19
- 1Half means splitting 19 into 2 equal groups, so work out 19 ÷ 2.
- 219 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 9 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 19 is 9½ — 9 and a half. The even numbers either side, 18 and 20, halve to 9 and 10.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 9½ + 9½ = 19.
