Half of 25 is 12½
25 ÷ 2 = 12½
25 is an odd number, so it does not split into two equal whole groups — 12½ means 12 and a half.
How to find half of 25
- 1Half means splitting 25 into 2 equal groups, so work out 25 ÷ 2.
- 225 is an odd number, so it will not split into two equal whole groups — one group always ends up with one more.
- 3Put 12 in each group and there is 1 left over. Split that last one in half too.
- 4So half of 25 is 12½ — 12 and a half. The even numbers either side, 24 and 26, halve to 12 and 13.
Check it: put the two halves back together and you get 12½ + 12½ = 25.
